Prices for sketches

Sketching
What artists charge for sketching is totally at their discretion.
Signatures and doodles in books are usually always free. (Buying a book from an artist always helps to soften them up a little)
Some will sketch for free, others will have price lists and some only accept full commisions.
At BICS we only ask visitors to respect that when an artist does a free sketch they are working without pay and therefore doing you a big favour. This is what they do for a living. You wouldn't ask a plummer to fit your bathroom for free would you?
We are very lucky at BICS... many artists slave away all day sketching for free, but equally we would also expect visitors to be polite enough to ask the artist what they charge before requesting any artwork.
Hope that clarifies for you.
cheers
Shane

Re: Prices for sketches
I can only tell you how it was last time:
- Artists invited by publishers usually ask you to buy a book and then the sketch is for free
- Artists who are on the "official signing session" mostly sketch for free, although some do charge - mostly 5 pounds (such as Alan Davis for a head sketch) or 10 pounds (Staz Johnson for a full figure sketch, I am not sure about M. Buckingham, I think he charges also)
- Artists in the artist alley, meaning with their own table charged between 10-20 pounds
hope that helps
